Career Highlights
- Throughout his acting career, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan has created numerous stage characters in works of Armenian and international drama. Among his notable roles are Komitas in Three-Voice Liturgy, Baghdasar in Baghdasar Aghbar, Shylock in the production of the same name, as well as roles in Heghnar Spring, Mesrop Mashtots, The Murdered Dove, and many other productions.
- As a director at the Gyumri Drama Theatre, he has staged productions including Mesrop Mashtots, The Wise and the Foolish, David Copperfield, and Beast on the Moon. One of his notable directorial works is the staging of Anna Petrosyan’s psychological drama Arshile Gorky.
- Hovhannisyan has participated in international festivals and toured in the United States, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Iran, Syria, Russia, and other countries. In 2011, he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia.
Legacy
- Hovhannes Hovhannisyan’s creative career is closely connected with the theatrical life of Gyumri. Over more than four decades on stage, he has contributed not only as an actor and director, but also as an educator, helping train new generations of theatre professionals. Since 1998, he has taught acting and directing at the Gyumri branch of the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography.
- In 2022, the Gyumri Drama Theatre marked his 60th birthday and the 40th anniversary of his creative career with state support. As part of the anniversary program, his production of Arshile Gorky was presented.
- Hovhannisyan has expressed his relationship with his hometown in a simple but powerful phrase: “Gyumri is my beginning and my end,” reflecting the deep connection between the artist and the city throughout his life and career.
