History & Tradition
- For centuries, Gata has been the centerpiece of Armenian festive tables. The version made with matzoon is a staple of home baking, as the yogurt gives the dough an incredible lightness and a subtle tang. Traditionally baked in a tonir, the preparation of Gata has always been a symbol of prosperity and a bountiful household.
How It’s Served
- Warm or cooled as a tea/coffee companion or standalone dessert. Sliced into pieces, sometimes dusted with powdered sugar or served with yogurt/tan. Pairs wonderfully with fresh fruit, nuts, or hot tea. Especially delicious fresh when the filling is still warm and gooey.
